Hometown (where you grew up): Axtell, TX
Members of your Family: Me, my boyfriend Joshua, step-son Noah, and baby girl Elara.
Tell us about your child/ren: Elara is 4 months old (6/5/17) and learning all about the world. She loves to go outside and she loves to eat. She’s constantly surprising us every day with new things she’s learning and doing. Noah is 10 years old and he plays basketball, is in karate, and loves to play video games.
Education/Career background: I was going to MCC (haven’t decided a major) when I found out I was pregnant with Elara so I took the last year off to prepare for and take care of her.
What was your childhood ambition?: I wanted to be a Veterinarian.
What does motherhood mean to you?: More than I ever imagined it would. I love my daughter so much and can’t believe that Joshua and I made such an amazing little person.
What is the furthest you have been from home?: Las Vegas, Nevada is the farthest I’ve been from Texas.
What made you want to join FIT4MOM?: I wanted a way to get back in shape without having to leave my baby with someone.
What does Stroller Strides do for you (or mean to you)?: Stroller Strides gives me a reason to get out of the house a few days a week and I get to hang out with other moms and make new friends. Stroller Strides means a lot because it helps keep away the feeling of loneliness that comes with becoming a new mom. I’m also happy Elara gets to experience new things and play with other babies.
What is your favorite exercise?: Running is my favorite cardio and I like most leg exercises like squats or lunges.
What is your proudest moment?: Any time that Elara learns to successfully do something new. Like when she learned to use her hands to grab things, and she recently learned to hold her bottle while eating.
What are three of your favorite things (besides your family!)?: Reading, hanging out with my friends, and playing pool (billiards).
Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us or makes you unique.: I’m pretty good at pool (for a mid-level player). I’ve played in the national championships for it a couple of times.
If we asked your spouse what they think your best qualities are, what would they say?: I asked him and he said, “You’re intelligent, logical, and rational… and calm… compared to most women I know.” Hahaha
What advice would you give to moms looking to get back into shape?: Just go out and get moving. It doesn’t matter how out of shape you are or how long it’s been. It’s never too late to try to get healthy. I feel much better and am much happier now that I’ve been exercising and eating better.
Hometown (where you grew up): Belton, TX
Members of your Family: My family has 4 members: Me, I’m Megan; my husband, Bill; our daughter, Margot; and our dog, Murphy.
Tell us about your child/ren: Margot is 7 months old and is such a happy baby. She is crawling and starting to pull up on things. She really enjoys being outside. She loves to try new foods. And her favorite thing in the whole world is our french bulldog, Murphy.
Education/Career background: I attended the University of North Texas and studied Applied Behavior Analysis. But after college I ended up working in banking for 10 years before leaving to stay home with Margot.
What was your childhood ambition?: Growing up I wanted to be a brain surgeon. My backup plan was to be an archaeologist (I thought all archaeologists were like Indiana Jones and that seemed pretty cool).
What does motherhood mean to you?: To me, motherhood means love. More love than I ever knew was possible.
What is the furthest you have been from home?: South Korea. We lived there for two years so technically, I guess, it was home. But that’s the farthest I’ve been from Texas.
What made you want to join FIT4MOM?: I wanted a way to workout and still be with my baby. I also was drawn to the fact that it’s not just about working out, but about building a community with other moms and supporting each other through the challenges and joys of motherhood.
What does Stroller Strides do for you (or mean to you)?: Stroller Strides lets me set an example for my daughter of the importance of self care. It lets me show her that no matter how slow we have to take it, or how many breaks we have to take, we keep going, we persist. And it allows me to feel more confident in myself as I improve and to feel accomplished as I work harder everyday.
What is your favorite exercise?: My favorite exercises are the ones that make me stronger! (But I also really liked the cardio “cheer” we did on Saturday, I don’t know the name of it)
What is your proudest moment?: My proudest Stroller Strides moment came when I realized I was strong enough to trade my orange band for a red one!
My proudest life moment was seeing my daughter for the first time and knowing that my husband and I made her with love (and science) and she was perfect.
What are three of your favorite things (besides your family!)?: Eating good food, going to the movies, and live music
Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us or makes you unique.: I have had a piece of pencil lead stuck in my forehead since I was five years old.
If we asked your spouse what they think your best qualities are, what would they say?: He would definitely say my sense of humor, he thinks I’m hilarious. Also, he really enjoys my sarcasm.
What advice would you give to moms looking to get back into shape? I would say just go for it! Find a friend, or a gym, or a program (I’m a fan of FIT4MOM/Stroller Strides ) and just get out there and get moving. It doesn’t matter if you start off slow. Consistency is key! If you keep going you’ll keep getting stronger and feel better!
